Track and Crossing Features 6.1 The DIVOgorie Ultra VI distance route is a conditional line laid between the following settlements: Semeyka village (Start) and Kostenki village (Finish) along the Don River on its right bank. The starts of the corresponding distances are located on the route at a distance from the Finish depending on the selected rakings. The finish line of all the distances is located in one place. The features of the T6 and T12 ranking distances are described in the clause 6.15 of these Regulations. 6.2 The nominal length of the distances may vary from the declared lengths of the rankings within no more than a 10% limit. The information about the final length of the distances will be submitted no later than 7 days before the start of the Competition. The length of the distances is measured along the optimal line from the point of view of a SAFE crossing of the conditional route. 6.3 The Competition conditional route is not marked. Participants cross the route distances using a GPS track and a paper map. Both the track and the map are given to the Participants by the Competition Organizing Committee. 6.4 The monitoring of the Participants’ distance crossing is carried out by a mark at the checkpoints («kontrolnyi punkt» in Russian, hereinafter referred to as «KP»). The number of checkpoints and their location will be announced just before the start of the briefing. IMPORTANT: KP on site will be located in OBVIOUS and well viewed from all sides areas so as to eliminate their search. A participant can choose the line of movement between the KPs independently, focusing on the optimal route or modifying it according to the specific conditions of the terrain, their physical state and other factors. 6.5 The checkpoints will be both MANDATORY and ADDITIONAL. Mandatory KPs are to be marked by a Participant on the mandatory basis. Participants who do not check in at ALL MANDATORY KPs will be excluded from the finish protocol. A participant will receive a temporary fine for not checking in at the ADDITIONAL KPs. The amount of the fine will be published additionally and marked at the participant’s card. A checkpoint will be a white and orange prism with an electronic marking station attached to it or a manual puncher for a Participant’s KP passage marking in a special card. When applying the electronic marking system, a Participant notes the passage of a KP by applying the electronic marking chip to the electronic marking station. The checking in at a KP is indicated by a sound signal and the lamp lights produced by a station. 6.6. The location of checkpoints, the line of the optimal route as well as the coordinates of the checkpoints will be mapped. A card is an obligatory element of a Participant's starter pack, and it is issued for each Participant on registration. However, the decision on whether to use the card while crossing the distance or not is made by each Participant independently. 6.7 The Competition rules allow and encourage the use of technical navigation aids based on GPS / GLONASS systems. Participants will receive a distance track. However, the data in the track will be conditional. Track points will be placed at a frequency of 500-1000 m. Track points are connected by straight lines and may not correspond to the real track network. BUT the track points are ALWAYS located on the track (adjusted to the of the positioning system accuracy) and ALWAYS go through a KP. KPs are not marked on the track! This is done on purpose, assuming that Participants use the track for general orientation on the terrain, but the choice of the movement line will have to be done independently by analyzing the terrain and using the map and track network information skillfully. Figure 1 shows an example of a track and an actual route to clarify the question of whether a track corresponds to a line of movement. The GPS track is marked in blue whereas the actual line of movement possible in this area is marked in yellow. 6.8 The possibility to cross the track depends on weather conditions. in case of of protracted rain, the track crossing possibility can be complicated by river floods, swamp areas formation and dirt. The occurrence of such sites and the ways of their safe crossing will be announced additionally. 6.9. The track crossing involves fording the rivers or their crossing over the existing bridges at the discretion of a Participant. The expected ford depth is up to 1.2 meters, the current is weak. A rope will be stretched at the crossing point allowing to control the participant's movement while crossing the river. A taut rope will NOT be a crossing. In case of natural anomalies or a sharp change in a river water level as well as a significant drop in temperature, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to make changes to the conditions for fords crossing to maintain the safety of participants. 6.10 The detailed information about the track parameters will be published no later than 7 days before the start in the technical regulations. 6.11 The track crossing is carried out independently. It means that Participants are to have everything they need to cross the track, including enough food and drink supplies. Sources of water will be available along the track (places will be indicated both on site and on the map). Checkpoints will normally be uninhabited. 6.12 The T215 ranking provides 3 food and rest points located at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the distance. 6.13 The T160 ranking provides 2 food and rest points located at 1/3 and 2/3 of the distance. 6.14 The T100 and T80 rankings provide 1 food point 50 km before the finish line (approximately). 6.15 Hot meals are provided for all Participants at the finish line. 6.16 The T6 ranking differs from others by the start and finish lines location in the base camp of the Competition – on the territory of the «Evolution Kostenki» sports and leisure centre. The ranking distance is 5.5 km. The ranking track is marked. For this ranking, the use of navigation systems is not required and remains at the discretion of the Participants. 6.17 The T12 ranking differs from the others by the start and finish lines location in the base camp of the Competition - on the territory of the «Evolution Kostenki» sports and leisure centre.
